September 02nd, 2010 FLORIDA FOOTBALL: FOOD FOR A MAN'S SOUL SEND US AN EMAIL

The Pigs have escaped the Pen

You would think University of Arkansas fans are on top of the world.  A team many questioned would become bowl eligible won 10 games in the toughest conference in the country.  Its three losses all to teams that finished in the TOP FIVE.  It will return two of the top running backs in the country (one of whom was a Heisman runner up) and it will be the second year for the highest rated High School quarterback of the 2006 recruiting class.  Life is good for Hog fans right?  Well . . . not so much.

Recently we reported on the mess at the University of Arkansas (Things are going Nutts at Arkansas).  This is a program buried in rumors of dissension.  Now it seems that some more of these rumors have proven true as spread-guru and offensive coordinator Guz Malzahn has decided to leave Arkansas to accept the “CO-OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR” position at the University of Tulsa.

Hmmm . . . now why would a “coordinator” leave a bigger and more resourceful school in the most prestigious conference in the country to be a “co-coordinator” at a much smaller school in a mid-major conference?  Could it be that the rumors were correct?  Malzahn was not being allowed to call the plays, he wasn’t allowed to adapt the offense, he was constrained by the “old” coordinator/head coach (aka Houston Nutt) to run a 1950’s era conservative offense that considers the “passing game” as a flawed city folk invention that won’t work in old fashioned country football.

Despite the shockingly pathetic out of conference schedule, expect the piggies to keep on the highside of 4 losses next year.  The presence of running backs Felix Jones and Darren McFadden will keep the Hogs from having a too bad of a season (especially against that joke of a schedule).  But following 2007 they have clearly emblazoned a trail of mediocrity for the future.  This will affect the current team in terms of attrition as well as future recruiting.  As long as Frank Broyles remains the Athletic Director and Granny Nutt remains head coach they will never be able to compete on a regular basis with the high tech and well coached teams of the SEC in the coming years.

Bye bye Hogs, thanks for stopping by.  Maybe we will see you again in another 5 or 6 years.

Sincerely,

The Georgia Dome

UPDATE:  Mitch Mustain has been granted a transfer by Houston Nutt:  Mustain Granted Transfer

Ugh…Keltic…don’t remind us Hog fans about what life will be like A.D. — After DMac.

Enjoy the blog.

I can’t believe Malzahn and the kids got their panties in such a wad. I mean — Darren Mc-fucking-Fadden was in the backfield. If my team had that guy (that is, my team in NCAA 2007), I’d never pass.

That is, unless McFadden’s passing. Then it’s OK.

Get it right, at least…. Gus will be Co-OC AND Asst. Head Coach.

NEWSPAPER HACK–Unless you know Gus and the Springdale kids personally don’t slam them. They are quality people and above reproach. The parents got involved because that’s what parents do. Wouldn’t it be refreshing if more parents got involved in their childrens lives?

Not if it meant creating a soap opera and going over the coach’s head to the AD.

If this was happening at Alabama, I’d be putting my head in the sand.
