O&B Hue Picks ‘Em - Week 2
Heeeeeere we go, folks. When you look back on the history of the Pick ‘Em, week one held no surprise for da Hue as Rob G took an early and somewhat commanding lead. Here’s the breakdown:
1st place: Rob G. 3-2, great pick on the Georgia Tech game (and a big bet too). +$400. Total: $1,400.
2nd place: Gatorpilot. 3-2, +$150. Total: $1,150.
3rd place: Keltic Gator. 2-3, -$200. Total: $800.
4th place: Swampster. 1-4, -$225. Total: $775.
5th place: Gator Boys. 3-2. Total: $400.
Notes: Swampster had a dreadful showing, getting only one pick correct, but played it safe with enough bets so as not to cause irretrievable damage… Keltic put most of his money on the line but got lucky with his Auburn pick… Gatorpilot yet again suffered at the hands of ND, and has yet to make a correct pick involving the Irish since the 2006 season, but pulled out the rest of his picks minus Tennessee. and Rob G is becoming the most hated man at the Hue. Rob G, make sure look both ways when you cross the street to deposit our money in the ATM. Gator Boys is a Hue reader who despite going 3-2 bet most of his wad on Tennessee and Auburn. He’s down to $400 after just one week.
Onward and upward with week #2! This week we’re going with:
- Miami @ #6 Oklahoma -10.5
- Oregon @ Michigan -8.5
- #9 Virginia Tech @ #2 LSU -12.5
- Notre Dame @ #15 Penn State -17.5
- South Carolina @ #12 Georgia -4.5

| Miami @ #6 Oklahoma -10.5 | Pick | Bet Amt | |
| Gatorpilot | This is a big line… but Miami is an offensively challenged team and Oklahoma is coming off a massive 79-0 pasting of North Texas. Kirby Freeman sucks. | Oklahoma -10.5 |
$100 |
| Swampster | Randy Shannon takes to the road against the Sooners who did not have much competition last weekend. I see Canes surprising everyone by staying in this game. | Miami +10.5 |
$50 |
| Keltic Gator | The phrase Miami and Oklahoma brings back memories of the heyday of the 80s. While one of these teams is still in the hunt for a National Championships the other might take the field screaming “We ready! We ready!” reminiscing about the FIU game (their last blowout win prior to Marshall). VT and LSU could be a low scoring ugly game but competitive. This could also be an ugly game minus the whole “competitive” aspect. Look for OU to ROLL the Canes and show the world the “State of Miami” now refers to how low the football program has reached rather than the football talent in that region. Miami isn’t explosive on offense outside of the RB position. A great defense only works if you can find ways to score. Plus the running backs of the Sooners will FAR outshadow what the Canes faced in the Thundering Herd. Take OU for the rout! | Oklahoma -10.5 |
$350 |
| Rob G | Let’s see, both teams beat a nobody handily in week 1… But Miami’s new QB looked horrible, almost Kyle Wright-esque, and if nothing else Mr. Stoops is going to field a quality defense. 300 on Oklahoma. | Oklahoma -10.5 |
$300 |
| Oregon @ Michigan -8.5 | Pick | Bet Amt | |
| Gatorpilot | Gosh… what to do heah? Oregon is surely more talented and fields a speedier team than App State. Then again, so does the rest of the Big 10. Is Michigan going to lose the rest of their games? Probably not, right? However, Oregon seems particularly well-suited to shred the Wolverines’ awful offense. This will be the game that seals the deal for Mr. Carr. | Oregon +8.5 |
$100 |
| Swampster | Will the Wolverines be ready to play after last weekends debacle? I’d say so. |
Michigan -8.5 |
$150 |
| Keltic Gator | If any team needs to come out on fire this week it’s Meeeeesheeeegan. The still have a lot of NFL talent, now have a big time chip on their shoulder and are playing at home. So the safe bet is the Wolverines in a redemption game right? Not so fast my friend. Until Michigan actually BEATS a Pac 10 team I’m not going to assume they can beat them by 9. Plus Oregon will spread the field and attack that big slow Michigan defense on the edges. Unless the Wolverine D-Line can dominate the Oregon O-Line the Ducks will score points. I expect this game to be back and forth and if you can get past the horrible clash of colors on the field it should be fun to watch. Take the Ducks and the points. | Oregon +8.5 |
$100 |
| Rob G | I know, the smart money says Michigan bounces back and crushes Oregon. Well, smart has never been my forte. Besides, part of me thinks Lloyd Carr is too poor a coach to get Michigan’s morale back. 200 on Oregon. |
Oregon +8.5 | $200 |
| #9 Virginia Tech @ #2 LSU -12.5 | Pick | Bet Amt | |
| Gatorpilot | Why a 12.5 line? Whyyyy? Yeah, LSU will win this game. Despite their 45-0 showing at Mississippi State I wasn’t overwhelmed by their offense. Still, you put Glenn Dorsey on the defensive side of the ball, and it’s hard to imagine any opponent of LSU’s scoring points. LSU to beat the spread. | LSU -12.5 | $100 |
| Swampster | This one will show the strength of the SEC. However, the line is quite big. | Va Tech +12.5 |
$100 |
| Keltic Gator | The biggest game of the year so far and a clash of two of the best defenses in the country. To me that means this could be a pretty boring game. To me the difference in this game is simple, LSU has a real QB in Matt Flynn while VT’s Scott Glennon just plays one on TV. This isn’t to say that LSU is going to be tearing up the field against the Hokies defense but it means that unless LSU turns the ball over, gets a bunch of penalties and self destructs, sooner or later they should outlast the Hokies at home. This game is a defining statement game for Coach Les Miles who has never been very popular in Bayouland. Should the Tigers lose this one the LSU fans will show up at his house Sunday morning to pack him up and ship him to Ann Arbor. Both teams have a great defense and LSU has a better offense (with better offensive talent). HOWEVER, Tech will have better special teams and has the better coach. LSU should win but not by that much. Take Va Tech and the points.
|
Va Tech +12.5 |
$100 |
| Rob G | VT did not impress me against ECU. Then again, LSU just had the least dominating 45 point win I’ve ever seen. When in doubt, go with the home team. When in doubt, go with the SEC. I’ll take 250 on LSU. |
LSU -12.5 |
$250 |
| Notre Dame @ #15 Penn State -17.5 | Pick | Bet Amt | |
| Gatorpilot | I’m just soooo tired of losing money on Notre Dame. But I’m not at all sold on the concept of giving PSU’s Anthony 2+ TDs. Line’s too big! Hoot the klaxxons! I’m taking ND again, sure to fail. | ND +17.5 | $50 |
| Swampster | This line is huge. Not sure what type of Lion tea we have this year. | ND +17.5 |
$100 |
| Keltic Gator | I’m not sure what to make of the Nittany Lions. Have they truly recovered from their stretch of mediocrity? I like the offensive mind of Galen Hall but I still am not convinced the overall talent of the team is where it once was. If they have truly improved the way they say they have then this game shouldn’t be close. If their recruiting doesn’t live up to the hype then this game could be much closer than anticipated. I like PSU’s offensive talent over the ND bunch so I might go with Penn State by 7-10 but not 17. Michigan and Notre Dame might really be as bad as they looked on week one but it’s too early to tell. Notre Dame is playing for pride and redemption. Let’s see if Clausen has what it takes. Take Notre Dame and the points. | ND +17.5 | $100 |
| Rob G | Well, that’s a large line. ND rocked PSU last year, but maybe PSU has learned to apply QB pressure since then. Maybe. I guess we’ll see how good the Ostrich is, since he’s starting. 300 on PSU. |
PSU -17.5 | $300 |
| South Carolina @ #12 Georgia -4.5 | Pick | Bet Amt | |
| Gatorpilot | Georgia and Matt Stafford looked outstanding in their opener while South Carolina (minus Blake Mitchell) looked lackluster again UL-Laff. The force is strong in this one. | Georgia -4.5 |
$300 |
| Swampster | I think this game will be close. I almost want to pick the GameCocks, but someone here thinks that Stafford is the class QB of the SEC. Who knew? | Georgia -4.5 |
$50 |
| Keltic Gator | A lot has changed in a week. An impressive showing by the Bulldogs and a weak outing by the Gamecocks has made UGA a distinct favorite in this game. I expect SCar to play much better this week and I like Mitchell as a quarterback. Since he was inserted in the Arkansas and led a furious comeback that fell short he has made play after play. Against UF, Clemson and Houston he showed that he has grasped the Spurrier mindset and finally has the toughness to deal with the ole head ball coach. This game will be close and as much as I believe Georgia is an SEC title contender I think the Cocks want this game more. Even if the Dogs win it will be a close affair. Take the Gamecocks and the points. | USC +4.5 |
$100 |
| Rob G | I know it’s SOS against Georgia, but he hasn’t beaten them yet as a Cock. Plus, doubting Georgia did not pay off last week. 350 on UGA. | Georgia -4.5 | $350 |
Gator Boys is betting 100% of his dough on LSU -12.5. Hope for the best here, fellas.
