We Lost Jarred Fayson
Jarred Fayson has been granted his release from the football team in order to transfer to another school, citing a frustration with lack of playing time. This comes on the heels of not playing in the FSU game last Saturday.
My first reaction is: what the hell? With Bubba Caldwell graduating, you’d think Fayson would be a prime candidate to find his way onto the field a lot more in 2008.
I’ll be the first to admit he didn’t see the field as much as someone with his talents might ought to, and I understand why, too: as good as Fayson is/was, there are guys on this team who are even better.
Still, this seems like an odd choice now that Fayson has paid his dues, beefed up and even won a championship ring as a freshman.
Fayson always struck me as one of our more talented young players. He had some great runs and catches this year. He has close to Percy Harvin speed and is an elusive runner. I was expecting big things out of him in 2008.
This is a disappointing day for Gator Nation.

This feels like when David Huertas left - a guy leaving to get more playing time right before he was going to get more playing time.
Huertas would be a feature player this year if he really was that good, and he could have spent last year winning another title instead of rotting on the bench in Oxford. Fayson is leaving now, right before he could have become the #2 option with Caldwell graduating and CI likely heading to the draft. What were these guys thinking?

Meyer is trying to persuade CI to stay here - he doesn’t think CI is ready for the NFL yet, and frankly, his draft stock can only go up if he stays another year.

CI needs persuading? He had better stay for another year. He is an NFL talent, but one more season will do a lot for him. Can you say “possession receiver”?

It is disappointing, but I dunno… Fayson always seemed to be a little more potential than performance. I wish him the best, and hopefully he’ll turn out to be a Martin rather than a Berlin or Portis.

I hope we have some guys in the pipeline because I was hoping Fayson would fill Percy’s role after he declares next season. Kind of interesting it’s two Tampa guys leaving. (Fayson is Hillsborough, Pupelo is Jefferson.)

Guys, I don’t know what you all saw in Fayson. For a 5 star recruit he never showed the promise to live up to the hype. He didn’t have the ability to make people miss or the speed of Harvin. He didn’t have the quickness of Caldwell nor the strength or hands of CI. Fayson wasn’t going to REPLACE any of those guys. He was never going to be a superstar here at Florida. He could have been a good player but he was never going to be a featured player because he just didn’t have that “special” ability.
When he ran out of the backfield or returned punts he could not make people miss. There was a severe dropoff from Harvin and James to Fayson. He was a good receiver but would have started next year behind Harvin, Murphy, Cooper, and probably Deonte Thompson. He would have been fighting with guys like Justin Williams, David Nelson and Aaron Hernandez to get on the field. Plus the kid reportedly had a big chip on his shoulder. He didn’t celebrate with the team or cheer other players. Getting into a fight in the preseason with Percy Harvin over a girl didn’t help his status with the team either.
I come not to praise Fayson but to bury him. RIP Jarred.

Just so you guys know, there are other sources that state he left for personal reasons. And that isn’t code for not enough pt.

Huh, didn’t see this coming. CI better stay if he knows whats good for him. He’s good, but it seems that Urban is just only now allowing him to have the ball more. He has the talent, but he doesn’t have much experience.

KG,
I agree with you about Fayson’s on field performance. Still, he played a role on the team. Shame he never lived up to his hype, but I’m not like a lot of people are, mourning his departure. I wish him well at his new school, but he just isn’t what people were hoping he would be at UF. I don’t know how/why some fans are romanticizing his skills/talents/contributions.

to da dumb ass aboveme please shut da hel up if u dont know what you are talking about. Fayson was highly underrated. he really never got a chance to show his true skills. i go to UF and personally kno alot of the players. No he wasnt as fast as Percy….but lets be real who is. he was close tho. and percy is the fastest on the team, Louis Murphy is. They all raced and Murph won. You cant compare Jarred to CI because CI is a Tight End. of course he’s gonna be stronger. But CI isnt near as fast as Jarred is. And Jarred is way quicker and has better running skills than Caldwell. If you ever seen Caldwell run. He cant stop on a dime. it takes him forever to change direction. If Jarred would have stayed he would have definitely been a starter next year

I beg to differ on the belief that Fayson would have definitely been a starter next year. Harvin, Murphy, Moore, Thompson, Lawrence, Hines, Hammond, Cooper. It’s a crowded position at UF.
Fayson showed some flashes - hopefully he’ll succeedd elsewhere.

I was happy when Fayson signed with Florida, but if Billy Gonzales doesn’t think that the team cant do well without him then they would have made more of an effort to keep him. I wish him the best at Illinois with the figthin’ Zookers.

FAYSON THE TRUTH…WATCH
By fred harrell on 09.04.08 1:25 am
I agree fay is the truth and he has always been one of those who worked hard for the team and will surely have a great up-coming season with the zookers im from the 813 and Fay is defnantly a starter never sat the bench so i could see why he wouldnt be used to sitting and he loves the game so wouldnt he want to be in it.
