How about those Wildcats. I smell SEC title this year…but on a common ground note, Mr. Meyer was in attendance Friday night to see my beloved Reds play. He earned some kudos in my book.
By Daniel on 04.21.08 11:43 am
Cincinnati Reds? Meyer grew up in Ohio. He’s also a Bengals fan.
Yes sir. Apparently his dad is a big Reds fan to, that’s pretty awesome.
By Daniel on 04.21.08 12:07 pm
Communists in Cincinnatti? Nah, not a chance.
Although methinks it odd that Marxists and baseball players can share a nickname.
Also, KG Jr. is on pace for 600.

But hey, the Big Red Machine sure beats the Curse of Rocky Colavito.
By Vincent Gagliano on 04.21.08 12:40 pm
I detest Adam Dunn. He has the clutch ability of CDR at the free throw line.
By Daniel on 04.21.08 12:51 pm
To which I say, meet your new worst nightmare:
He only has 1 W and 9 K’s in three plate appearances. He’s got a 13.09 ERA for the season. And he played for the streaking NL champion Colorado Rockies last season.
Meet ex-Gator Josh Fogg.
We got tired of your yapping about UK, so we sent Fogg in to sabotage the rotation.
Just kidding about that last part, but seriously, he hasn’t had a great start to his season.
At least we still have David Eckstein, 2006 World Series MVP.
By Vincent Gagliano on 04.21.08 1:01 pm
Who couldn’t hold Brandon Webb, Mr. Cy YOung and Uk Grad’s jock strap…
By Daniel on 04.21.08 3:51 pm
However, I read on yahoo.com today that Wesley Woodyard is slipping on the draft boards despite a stellar career for your beloved Cats.
Maybe he shoulda gone to U of L, where they have a solid football program.
By Vincent Gagliano on 04.21.08 4:16 pm
uhhh….except that you are currently in LAST place in the SEC East. I guess you guys own the cellar from March to November in every sport….
I’ll give you the cheerleading thing. The most amazing part of UK’s dominating cheerleading squad is that they don’t have squat to cheer for at that school!
By skigator93 on 04.21.08 8:44 pm
Is it just me or is SKIGATOR perhaps the most bitter sounding person ever? Except football, I think we have beaten florida in the last match of everything we’ve played, so what exactly do the coked out Florida cheerleaders have to be all jovial about? As for U of L football, I believe we beat them last year in the first game of the season.
That said, football can be a pretty boring sport, I’ll be glad when it’s over so we can get back to talking about a real one, basketball. What’s our overall record against you guys again SKEETGATOR? All that hatred is obvious, it ain’t all that great to be a FLorida Gator, especially when you win back-to-back titles and you’re still not the class of the SEC.
By Daniel on 04.22.08 8:37 am
The NBA is like magic, it makes most of the Cats basketball competence disappear.
By Vincent Gagliano on 04.22.08 9:27 am
There are a lot of Cats that are in the NBA playoffs right now.
I thought it was great that College Gameday was at your spring game. Just shows how big SEC football is. ‘Bama had 85,000 at there game. SEC football is second only to the NFL.
When I snap my fingers, you’ll recognize the error of your UK ways and become UNCeeeeee fans.
They’ve got MJaaaay, Worrrrtheeeeee, and Dean Smiiith, who is sooooo much betterrrr than that Rupp fella.
By Vince Gagliano on 04.22.08 5:21 pm
Pay no attention to the collegiate affiliation of the fake mentalist who just commented.
By Vince Gagliano on 04.22.08 5:23 pm
Yeah man, I am so bitter. I just wish we could have an athletic department like UK. I wish we could compete in one sport per year and get rolled in everyhting else. Unfortunately for you, your domination in your only sport is OVER.
Once again though - you can keep dwelling on your all time record and your historic championships and all that jazz. Keep dusting off those trophies Dan, it’ll be a long long time until you win another.
As for beating us in “the last match of everything we’ve played” the official count is 2 - basketball and baseball. We beat you last in football, tennis (M&W), track (M&W), gymnastics, volleyball, cross country, softball, golf (M&W), soccer, swimming (M&W) and tiddly winks too.
I guess when you’re a one trick pony, 2 sports seems like “everything.” Oh yeah, you got us in cheerleading too, if you consider that a sport. I guess none of those count because 1950s basketball is really the only thing that counts.
p.s. name the last UK player to score 20 points and pull 10 boards in his first NBA playofff game as a rookie….quick now…time’s running out.
As for other Gators in the playoffs - Matt Bonner. And he’ll be around for a while.
By skigator93 on 04.22.08 8:56 pm
Kentucky and Florida fans arguing about baseball? You’ll still be arguing while the Cats and Gators are at home watching the Cocks play ball in Omaha!
By Gamecock Man on 04.22.08 10:01 pm
I think I know where you’re going with the 20-10 argument, Ski. After all, it’s not like any ex-UF rookies coming off of two national championships aside from Horford would actually do such a thing.
If Al gets more aggressive on the offensive end like he did in game 1, he’ll be tough to stop.
By Vincent Gagliano on 04.23.08 9:25 am
Most really good NBA players make a huge leap either from their rookie year to their second year, or from second to third.
Al is already really good. He could possibly become “great.”
By skigator93 on 04.23.08 3:51 pm
Agreed. To a lesser extent, Shaquille O’Neal was much the same way coming into the league from LSU.
At the time, scouts were worried that he was so advanced defensively (strange as it may seem) that he didn’t score to his potential on the offensive end.
Once he crossed that hump, he making the most dominant big man of the 90’s and beyond, spearheading the powerhouse Laker teams of the early 2000s.
Probably the best overall example that we have today is Dwight Howard, who is a 20-20 threat every night and has only gotten better every year he’s been in the league.
Compare that to Amare Stoudemire, who can pile on 30 a game but has trouble grabbing even 10 boards per game. Get this, Horford averaged more rebounds per game in his rookie season than in any of Stoudemire’s campaigns, in spite of the fact that Amare has more name recognition, time in the league, AND has Shaquille O’Neal’s backing.
If he becomes the second or third scoring option on the team, he could make your beloved Hawks even more dangerous.
How about Smoltz with 3K K’s?
By Vincent Gagliano on 04.23.08 4:18 pm
I think “AL” will be solid, but playing for the Hawks, never great. As for the rest of that heralded 07 FLorida Class, can we say flop.
By Daniel on 04.23.08 6:40 pm
And the Untouchables, with Walker with the sole player whose NBA career has meaning, are better?
By Vincent Gagliano on 04.23.08 8:01 pm
I think it is a little early to call a flop. Noah had a few great lines this season playing for a terrible team who changed their lineup nightly.
Brewer is stuck in Minnesota along with Richard playing for a terrible team. It will be tough to do anything meaningful there. He was never a great shooter at UF and has really struggled with FG percentage in the NBA.
I agree that Green won’t amount to anything and may not make a roster next season. I think Calathes is already better than Green was his junior year.
The 04s were the epitomy of a TEAM. It is nice to see that at least one of them will make it in the NBA. Success in the NBA really doesn’t have anything to do with college success.
I just watched the Hawks look terrible again in Boston. I didn’t realistically expect them to win (I expected a sweep) but for Pete’s sake, I would hope we could stay within 20 one of these games!
By skigator93 on 04.23.08 9:46 pm
Well, at least you get to watch them struggle.
That certainly hasn’t been the case since Mike Bibby was a rookie with the Vancouver Grizzlies.
Why look like every other Gator? Stand out from the crowd. Getcher Flaw-duh gear at the Orange and Blue Hue Fanshop. It's cool, it's edgy, and tastes better than Tony Joiner's sandwiches!
Amazingly, someone offered to pay Gatorpilot to write about college football and basketball. He covers the SEC for AOL's FanHouse. His five latest posts:
"... one of the best Gator fan sites I've seen on the web!" -Florida College Sports
"Orange and Blue Hue, for your viewing buck, is simply a better Gator blog than we can ever hope to be..." -Orson Swindle, EDSBS
"O&BH is, was, and will continue to be the best UF site on the interwebs." -Kevin Donahue, Fanblogs
"Orange and Blue Hue is the best Gators blog by far. They can be homers and still criticize the team. Most of all, they are flame throwers when someone takes a cheap shot at UF. That's what you want in a blog." -mlmintampa, Alligator Army
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

It is baseball season and we just won a series against the mighty gators!
