FSU Fans Cheer Percy Harvin’s Injury: Let Us Not Forget

Harvin injured at Doak
There are many corroborating reports of FSU fans descending to new lows in the course of the Florida-Florida State rivalry game. From ESPN:

[FSU fans] cheered wildly when Harvin, the team’s leading receiver, left the game in the second quarter with a sprained right ankle. He limped off the field with the help of trainers and didn’t return.

I’m finding it very difficult to comment on this rationally. I’ve tried, but I can’t find the words to express how despicable this is — it feels like a gut punch. Not from FSU; they’re harmless. But rather that in a game which cherishes sportsmanship, a group of people — any people — could cheer injury to their fellow man.

Luckily for the Gators, there’s one man out there who doesn’t need words.

Tebow was incensed by the reaction.

“That kind of irritated me,” Tebow said. “I told the coach to give me the ball because I really wanted to hit somebody.”

Meyer obliged, and Tebow carried several defenders into the end zone from 4 yards out two plays after Harvin’s injury.

Add another chapter to the legend that is Tim Tebow. And add reason #9924 to hate FSU.

Let’s be honest: this is really bad. As Urban Meyer would say, this is a big deal. It’s hard to fathom cheering a kid getting injured on a football field. Even in the nastiest college rivalries, this is something that just isn’t done. For example, it’s hard to believe that Georgia fans would have done the same if they were in FSU’s shoes. Say what you will about Georgia and their fans — they’re far from perfect — but they wouldn’t do that. O&B Hue has received reports from Gator fans in Doak Campbell indicating that grown men cheered as the nation’s greatest playmaker was helped off the field, while their young children watched them, mystified.

Kids knew better.

Before this incident, I could have understood if flames of this rivalry began dying down. It’s hard to maintain a red-hot blood rivalry when two teams are so obviously speeding in opposite directions — FSU is years away from competing with the Gators. I could have understood if, next year, Urban Meyer was forced to dig deep into his bag of tricks to get the Gators up for yet another mediocre FSU team visiting in the Swamp. But now… ?

Now I think we aim to drop 100 on their sorry asses next November. Welcome to the Swamp, you sorry sacks of sh*t.

We’re SURE that they were cheering his injury? I know several reports of the game mention it, but they also are quoting Tebow in most of them, and maybe he misunderstood something? I just want to give them more credit than that, because I can’t imagine any football crowd cheering an injury.

Again, we’re sure it wasn’t the polite cheering every player gets when he gets up walking again?

I heard the cheering on TV when he was down at first.

Just Noles being Noles.

I was there at the game so let me assure you that yes they were cheering at him being injured. And yes, sadly, the majority of them that were near us doing it were old enough by far to know better.

Way to stay classy seminole fans…

TJ: we’re sure. There’s no question about this one.

My guess is that, like the coaches, FSU fans realize the only way they can win is to knock the Gators’ best players out of the game. It’s nauseating to see people really can behave that way but if there’s one group of fans in the nation who can set new lows, it’s FSU.

I was at the game and they were definitely cheering at the injury of Percy Harvin. It was mainly coming from the corner of the stadium where Percy went down. We (gator fans) couldn’t believe it. We were all looking around asking, are they really cheering at Percy being injured?? I wasnt a fan of the noles before, but I really despise them now. I dont care who you are, but cheering at a player being down is despicable. It truly shows the lack of class FSU players and fans have.

Let us also not forget that Florida fans cheered Tyrone Prothro going down with a gruesome, career-ending injury in 2005 when the Gators visited Bryant-Denny Stadium and got stomped in Meyer’s worst loss during his tenure….

I’m nothing close to a Seminole apologist, but it’s important to realize that sometimes, fans do or say things in the heat of the moment that they would otherwise never do or say. It happens to everybody.

Besides, let’s move on to thinking about a much worthier opponent, someone who at least has the chance to score more than the Citadel, unlike the SOW…

Douch bags and jerks….

If you heard that UF fans cheered Prothro going down, you are mistaken. I was there for that miserable game. He was cheered when he left the field — not while he was laying on it.

I’m not buying the Prothro thing either. It was a road game - what were there? 4000 Gators there? How would you even be able to tell?

I was watching on HDTV and the cheers were loud and obvious. Terrible display.

I was there-Section 37 row 73 and it was true and it wasn’t just a few it was a whole lot of that section cheering the injury!! I started screaming what a classless group they are too which most wouldn’t respond but 1 did and we exchanged a few words. Regardless, this is the stuff Gator players can use to fuel the fire for years to come. I have lots of FSU friends who wouldn’t do this but regardless, there were plenty of backwoods redneck FSU idiots there that did.

I’m not surprized that FSU fans cheered Harvin’s injury. Remember when a FSU defender twisted Ernest Graham’s leg on purpose and put him out of the game? How about all the late hits on Wuerffel in 1996. FSU, their coaches, players, and fans have always been low class. Well, not Bowden, but for sure their defensive coordinator. Remember his quote? We play till the echo of the whistle, which was an admission that he coached late hits.

I was at the game yesterday and trust me when I tell you they cheered when he was down and booed him when he got up. The most classless act I’ve ever witnessed in my life but then again it was the nole fans I shouldn’t have such high expectations.

rjsplow has been spreading the “gators cheered prothro’s injury” on a number of blogs and message boards around the internet. despite numerous accounts to the contrary–nothing like the indisputable evidence for the fsu fans cheering harvin’s injury.

what is the point of telling a lie to counteract this outrage?

douche.

What do you guys expected from free shoe’s U. Darnell Dockett to Ernest Grahm’s ankle and Danny Wuerffel being hit on average 3 seconds after the ball was released in 1996. There is one commonality involved here and it is not he sensile head coach. It is Mickey Andrews at his finest, a dirty rotten scoundrel.
Let us wait and see if Jimbo is man enough to realize who his counter part is an will not keep this dirt bag around.

I too was at the 2005 Alabama game and I stick by my story. That was the worst SEC trip I’ve ever taken because of the outcome, but hearing with my own ears how Florida fans reacted- at least ones near me, anyway- made the tripe home not only depressing but embarrassing as well. I’ll be as clear as I can: fans surrounding me wearing Orange and Blue cheered after Prothro went down and before he was carted off the field. I know what I heard and what I saw, maybe your section wasn’t filled with as many drunk d-bags.

Oh, and ESMJR? I could care less if you don’t believe me. If you follow this site regularly, then you would know I post here fairly often and I take pride in not flaming or fueling arguments (unless it’s about Notre Dame and/or Kentucky, anyway). I simply wouldn’t post anything unless I’ve either given it some serious thought or unless I observed something with my own eyes. Unlike you, I won’t resort to personal, juvenile attacks… you can believe whatever you want.

And, for a little lesson in reading comprehension, please observe I made it clear I brought this up not to absolve FSU fans from cheering when Harvin was hurt, but to point out that this type of reprehensible behavior has happened within Florida’s own fan base, so I have a little problem with Florida fans making yesterday’s behavior the crime of the century.

ok heres the thing. I understand you Gay-tors find it hard to understand anything that going on, because over HALF you fan base are non-students(I.E.) people that just so happen to live in and around Gainsvill.e Secondly doesnt know what he’s talking about, and thats understandibly so, I was at the game, we werent cheering for an injured player, thats something UF fans and players alike do. Tebow, lord of the Noles and his commnents should stick to keeping his mouth shut about specualtions; after all, FSU is the school were athletes and acedemics mean something..ask Myrone, the real student athlete. In final, I am very happy 2 gay-tor players were helped off the field of play, just goes to show, that this is a game for MEN (and I reallllyyyy like men, especially naked men but that’s another topic), and for gators sake, their athletes only play collegiate ball for 3-4 years and they do something else. My thing is this, Tebow, lord of the Noles , harvin and his bummed ankle should have chosen FSU or Miami for school, that way if they wanted to a career in the NFL after college, they would have played there. Gators won the game, but Nole-nation took a chomp out of that butt, by injuring 2. Te-bag, we hope to see you next year in Gay’s-ville. Hope you incurr an concusion real soon. Semen-holes for Life

Moderators Note: I may have adjusted some of the more vile language but the misspellings and grammar errors are absolutely how this was originally posted.  How hilarious is it that someone wants to stress the “academics” off a school but can’t SPELL academics?  Classic Noleism.  By the way, athletics DO mean something in Tallahassee.  Most recently they have meant continued failure and NCAA Sanctions.  Good luck with that Noleaid.

Did anyone forgett what happend in Gainsville last year? A UF student shot and killed a FSU student in the parking garage after the game, or do UF fans chalk it up a good faith? ^&*ing Nazi’s. I wish pain, hardace and death to all your players! Well maybe not death……but this is UF were talking about. so yes, I cannot wait for the swamp next year.

all you gator fans need to STFU, Prothro’s injury was way worse and y’all celebrated so just STFU.

The 2005 Alabama game was played in Tuscaloosa.  So I guess if you heard a lot of cheering it must have been . . . Bama fans???  That ranks a top 10 on the retard scale in my opinion, thanks for playing.

I agree with the above post; I hope tebow, otherwiseknown as Tebow, lord of the Noles gets knocked the *&* out! Out for good, outta college football and back to the little titian island he’s from. Only UF allows illegals to play for there school. **sholes

first of all the gator fans were booing bama for throwing the ball deep in the 4th quarter when they were already stomping us. second of all you all need to stop saying tebows gonna get knocked out because he’ll put up 45 points on your sorry a**es again. also florida is top 10 in the country in graduating their seniors and if a player on florida gets in trouble they are gone, not just suspended for a game. so all you Felon State University fans just stop crying about getting beat by 30+ points 2 years straight.

I don’t even know who Protho is or was. And I don’t care. What I do know is, The Gators will beat you Bama bums handily next week.

And to you seminole losers, I say Ha Ha, five in a row and next year and the years after that will be no different. Gators will beat you bums for the next 20 years.

Just wanted to chime in on this. I was at the game (Section 31, Row 70) and watched as a woman behind me laughed and clapped as the trainers ran out onto the field to attend to him. When one of her friends got onto her about, she just shrugged and said “Well, we’re probably going to lose… We need all the help we can.”

While I agree that every fanbase has their share of jackasses, I can honestly say that in four years of attending UF home games as a student I have never heard a fellow Gator laugh and clap as an opposing player writhed in pain. In one game at FSU, I heard at least three. The above Nole comments seem to be representative of their fans as a whole.

Easy there Steve - all the idiots posting here are FSU fans (not likely alumni - I mean the trailer park style FSU fans who don’t spell so well…like that RJSPLOW….) not ‘Bama fans. So let’s save that trash for any loudmouth ‘Bama fans, should they come around.

Did anyone else notice FSU playing “Crazy Train” while Percy was down? I wonder if that stupid laughter from that song wasnt deliberate?

Ski:

1) Go ahead and find something I spelled wrong in my two posts above. Oh, what’s that? You can’t? That’s because I didn’t spell a single thing incorrectly in my two posts above. Turns out I can spell “so well”.

2) I’m not an FSU fan. I’m a proud alum of the University of Florida and I have four separate degrees from the school, all of which I hang in my office proudly. Until this particular season, I had not missed a home game since 1999. So, please don’t question my fanhood, simply because you don’t want to believe what I’m saying….

I was at the Bama game when Prothro was hurt. In the Gator section. There wasn’t any cheering and I NEVER read any complaints from Bama fans/media about same. I was also in Tally last night (Sec 8/row 63 8-9) on the opposite side of the field from the “celebration.” It was loud and quite noticeable. We should have put another TD on their sorry asses. They deserved it.

Hey moderator, I am a proud graduate, well not so proud of UF, so where in the same idiot boat you a$$. Secondly, I got my masters from FSU, where I actually learned something. Make a point in a valid conversation, and stop looking at everyones grmr. No need to be so gay. PS I know my spelling is horrid, ease up will ya, thanks. G Noles

I just want to come back and apologize for the things that I said earlier about Tim Tebow. Great person, great athlete, and I wish him the best in his career on and off the the field.

Lets get this straight once and for all and spread the word and correct all incidences if possible. Me and my brother in law (gator fan) were at the game. We were all cheering during an announcement made during Harvin’s injury in which Myron Rolle appeared along with all the other FSU fans. This was an “anti tobacco” ad. It occurred during the time Harvin was being checked out by the trainers. Tebow was standing behind the trainers looking at Harvin. He DIDNT see the ad based on his angle on the field. Im sure all he heard was the cheers and interpreted it wrong. In fact i will contact him personally to fill him in if i’m able.

I am disgusted when anyone cheers an injury to a college athlete–it is inexcusable. If any FSU fans did cheer Harvin’s injury, then you are right to call them out.

But quit all this ridiculous stereotyping of the whole FSU fanbase. That’s just stupid. I witnessed a Gator fan laugh and cheer two weeks ago when FSU’s McClure hurt his knee. I was pissed at that fan, but would never generalize his behavior to that of all Gator fans.

I’ve been a Nole my whole life and have met many idiotic Gators, many idiotic Noles, many classy Gators, and many classy Noles. Noles and Gators in this feed should keep it classy. Don’t defend those who cheered because he was hurt; but also acknowledge that some fans were upset to see it (e.g., me) and others may have been cheering for other reasons.

it really bothers me that Nole fans are getting a bad rap from this. i was at the game and the only time i heard any cheering was when he was walking off the field - and the stands always cheer when an injured player is able to walk off the field. it is not in Nole blood to be so rude to any oposing team. i was born and raised a Seminole and am proud to be one. please make sure everyone gets their stories straight before condeming a whole seminole fan nation.

and as for the Crazy Train comment above, give me a freakin break. you are just looking for something to complain about if you are going to bring that up. they play that at every game.

all of that being said, lets all be adults and leave name calling out of this as well as other aspects of acedemics and what not. it’s a football game. leave it a football game. Noles or Gators, we are both excellent schools and at times excellent football teams. the display i’ve seen above though makes me question our excellence as fans, both teams.

go noles! and this weekend, go gators! hope y’all beat alabama!!!!!

RJSPLOW-

My apologies to you, I looked back at the wrong message and typed your name instead of NOLEAID. My mistake.

As for you, NOLEAID, your apology is not accepted and we don’t buy your bullshit story about a UF diploma and a masters at FSU.

As for the anti-tobacco ad - fine. If that is the case, then your school is idiotic for putting up ads (or highlights, etc.) on your seizure- inducing jumbortron that will incite cheers during an injury timeout. Duh.

I agree that every team (including ours) has idiotic fans.

We’ve beat this topic up pretty bad but my first thought beside shit Harvin’s hurt again (sorry Percy it has happened a lot) is the fact that we discussed how FSU is notorious for knee twisting and other ‘questionable pile injuries’ last week. Though the tackle looked pretty clean (kinda) it does seem eerily ironic that something like this happened to the best player on the field. Real crappy outcome with the cheering and all but I hope that Percy is ready to go against Bama.

Also, over my time of commenting and reading posts from people of all walks of life why do some think it’s necessary to explain their level of education and how many degrees they have? Is it to substantiate your ridiculous and misspelled (most of the time) comments? If so then how does one w/ so many degrees find time to comment on O&B Hue when they should be curing cancer and solving world hunger? Puzzling.

Maybe it’s the ‘in’ thing but I have a BSBA in MGMT from Hawaii Pacific University and working on getting my MBA through UF. Does this help my post??

First, some of the comments from some Semen-holes on here are ridiculous. First, Tallahassee has way more non-students clinging to the football team than Gainesville. Check the census, dumbie.

Second, A UF STUDENT NEVER SHOT A FSU STUDENT AFTER LAST YEAR’S GAME. This happened a block from my apartment. It was unaffiliated Gainesville ghetto trash that shot that kid, not a UF student.

Lastly, and I can’t believe no one is mentioning this:

Go back and watch the replay of Harvin getting injured. Now, don’t stop when the play stops. Keep watching. Watch the Semen-hole that injured him. He watches Harvin grab his ankle and roll over, AND THEN HE STARTS TO CELEBRATE.

Some people may want to say he was celebrating the tackle. Bull. Why on earth would someone on a defense celebrate a 6 yard gain on a first down against a team that just put up three straight touchdowns on them? It was a time for frustration, not celebration.

The FSU player was celebrating the fact that he had just injured Percy Harvin.

Why we’re not rioting over this, i’ll never know . . .

Oh, and PS (to another Semenhole comment on here)

UF and FSU are not BOTH great schools. Only UF is great.

FSU is tier 2 according to every ranking service there is. Meanwhile, UF is a top twenty Public U. FSU will never catch up. They are a joke, and if you go there, you are a joke.

Case closed.

Can’t wait to kick the shit out of you next year.

I’m beginning to hate you guys more than Ohio State fans.

Just one more reason to…

Avoid the rush, hate the ‘Noles early!!!

Just to clarify this thing some Nole fans are pushing about the Rolle ad being what people were cheering when Percy was hurt…NO. I was there, they played that in the 3rd quarter (this has been confirmed). I specifically remembered when they played it because my friends and I got a chuckle out of it since Tebow does the same thing for us. We most certainly were not chuckling when Percy was down. They definitely cheered for him being injured and I think it’s really sad that some Noles are trying to spin it or make excuses. They were not cheering for him getting up either because he was down for a VERY long time…the cheers in question were when he grabbed at his ankle. There were some “Tebow’s next” chants too, at the time. Classy. I did the same thing with my friends KG, we looked at each other in shock and asked, “Are they really cheering because Percy’s hurt?” I’m not painting the whole Nole fanbase with the same brush, but the fans in question are…well, a whole lot of ugly names not suitable to type here.

Later in the Game FSU Fans were taunting their own players. This is just a case of a fan base that is as clueless as their coaching staff. The lack of class came from old and young alike. I think I even saw Bowden clapping when Percy first went down, but it’s my understanding that when he claps it’s a signal to his caretaker that he needs a fresh pair of depends.

I wasn’t at the game but was watching it with my family. When I saw Percy go down, I got up and walked out of the room in frustration. My 12 year old son yelled to me that the Seminole fans were cheering for Percy getting hurt. I didn’t believe him until I read the paper on Sunday. It was so obvious, that a kid noticed it over the television. Typical classless act by typically classless fans. Can anyone say “inferiority complex”?

I heard it during the initial braodcast of the game, and I heard it again yesterday during the replay. They were cheering when they realized he was injured… not when he got up and started to make his way off the field, like normal football fans do. I can’t imagine why this surprises anyone, after years and years of talk about hurting UF players. Sure, they didn’t do it intentionally THIS time; but any group that openly condones that sort of thing publicly in the first place can’t be very decent “people”. I can’t be outraged, because I’d have to have some prior record of sportsmanship from them to not expect this kind of thing; and I haven’t experienced any of that from them to begin with. And are we really only up to reason #9924 to hate that garbage?

Faggs! You people are making me sick, we won the game, so let them talk all they want, we have whats important. You all are engaging in idiocracy at its finest. Some of these gator responses are ridiculous. I sat row e on the fifty(which ryms) and I did not hear not one person cheering. Not one, at least where I was sitting. Also, we cannot talk to much because our own player kneed another player while he was down! Lets not become the kettle. We are better than this!

I’m a Gator Grandson, Son, Alumni and proud father of a Florida Gator daughter. In light of Percygate I believe Florida’s Second University is due for a name change. With USF, FAU, UCF, FIU and FAMU becoming legitimate programs we should be calling the home of the semiholes Florida’s Seventh University.

I hope Florida puts up 100 on them next time! GO Gators!

What goes around comes around.
