Ferg? You okay?
Was Obama nominated a month early or something?

This might be just enough to give some doubt to a Sooner/Texas rematch in Miami. Lets just keep our fingers crossed. Not sure anyone could beat USC right now but too bad for them, like 2006 we might just sneak in again.

I think its safe to say we are in.

The kids proved tonight, that they are not only a high flying, finesse team — I think the game was billed as between “the beauty and the beast” — but they are also a down-and-dirty, smash-mouth band of scrapers, who would rather die, than give up. Whatever faint concerns I had about going up against a team like Oklahoma, have been summarily dismissed.
And did we miss Harvin? Indeed we did. The game would have been a lot more comfortable, had he been able to go. As it was, our boys had to depend on their “jetbacks,” tightends, quarterback (hehehe), D-line, O-line, LB, CB, D-backs…..ad infinitum.
Perhaps I’m stretching the envelope a bit — and I’m sure I’ll be hooted down by some, even our own — but is it possible that this is the best collegiate football team in the past 50 years…..rebuttals of the canes, noles, vols, dawgs, et-al, notwithstanding. And I would expect nothing less, as “less” would be paramount to admitting their failures, something they cannot do, even if they have to lie to themselves, which they do routinely!
There’s a statement going around right now in a national commercial that says; “If this isn’t a recession, it sure feels like one!” And I say; “If these boys are not the best in a very long time, they sure feel like it!” As the old song goes, and I’m paraphrasing; “If this ain’t perfection, it’ll have to do, until the real thing comes along.”

Another week, another team defeated! Seriously though, that game lived up to every bit of pre-game hype it was offered up with. I really do see Florida and Bama replaying the early 90’s all over again when it comes to the SEC…
Oh and popular Big 12 team de jour… your next!

You certainly live up to your name, this team is the SECs best this year and that is about as far as I’ll give em, but they may have the best QB in fifty years Ha! Ha! The Big 12 has two great teams both of which might be hard pressed to score against a USC defense. Point is until they get a playoff system it’s all just a bit mythical. When we have a true national playoff system and our southern teams prove they can travel and win on snow covered fields in playoff Stadiums in States like Indiana, then we will have a true champion. Until then it’s all a bit of a hoax.

HAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! I’m so proud of the guys!!!! THe Satan’s team played a hell of a game, but Lordy, the guys stepped up!!!! One of the best games I have ever seen the Florida Gators play in ever.!!!
By BurritoBrosShits on 12.06.08 10:21 pm
Congrats, Gators! Go win the SEC another national title! Most of the year, I wanna see you go down. But against Oklahoma, I’m pulling for the Gators!

Thanks, GC Man. We’ll do our best to represent the conference well and hopefully bring the crystal back to where it belongs — the SEC!

Really, GC Man?
You know, Bob Stoops, the head coach of the Sooners, was a defensive coordinator in Florida’s first national championship season, at a time when the coach was…Steve Spurrier.

GATORDONE,
I’m not sure I understand your requirement that a team must play in the snow in order to be considered the national champion, but Florida just finished it’s “playoff system,” and came out as a finalist.
I do agree that a national playoff system is the only way to go, and I’m not even put-out by your little; “You certainly live up to your name” shot, as that’s how I intended it. If you’ll review my post, I stated; “Perhaps I’m stretching the envelope a bit” and “…is it possible…”
Nonetheless, you may be sure that Florida is not a “hoax,” and even though you may not want to believe that UF is championship material, a large part of the country does. And since we currently don’t have said “playoff system,” what we do have “will have to do until the real thing comes along.”
By Bull Gator on 12.07.08 10:08 am
Your point? I know Bob Stoops coached at Florida. Still doesn’t change the fact that I want to see the SEC win another national title this year.
By gamecock man on 12.07.08 11:23 am
Even if you have a bone to pick with Pilot for all of his vitriol over the OBC?
Even if the team about to head to Miami blew out South Carolina for the second straight year and blocked Suck Up’s game winner in 2006?
Even if Tebow wins a second straight trophy and surpasses George Rogers for a tie for first on the all-time list?
Darn, you must be pretty forgiving.
By VG on 12.07.08 1:14 pm
Maybe. Like I said, though, I prefer to see the SEC represent itself well out of conference. Gatorpilot always puts away his feelings for Spurrier and gives us his support when we play Clemson, so I don’t see why I shouldn’t do the same for you guys. It wouldn’t look good for us if a team that blew us out got stomped by Oklahoma. And honestly, other than that I think Urban is a pretty shady character based on the recruiting stories you hear about him, I just don’t hate the Gators all that much. They’ve never really inspired serious vitriol for me. If it was UGA in the national championship game, I might have to think a little harder about toeing the conference line.
By gamecock man on 12.07.08 2:32 pm
This is what is great about the SEC. We’re one big, happy, dysfunctional family. And when the conference wins, we all win. I felt SEC pride last year when LSU brought home the crystal. Hopefully, if Florida can win it in January, the rest of the SEC can celebrate as well. It’s a win for the toughest conference in the land. What other conference has fans chanting “S-E-C!” when their team wins the game? It’s a special and unique part of being a fan of SEC football.
By GatorPilot on 12.07.08 2:55 pm
Well stated GC, and my complements. You’re a good man, in a world that’s in desperate need of “a few good men.” Blind hatred is an all consuming malady, and an ugly relative.
Honor and integrity will always shine through.
By Bull Gator on 12.07.08 4:27 pm
Thank goodness Alabama didn’t make it.
Does Auburn violate the SEC code, or pull for their most hated rival and destroy all (or most) of the values which they hold dear?
Thankfully, we don’t have to answer that question on the Plains.
By VG on 12.07.08 4:50 pm
Thanks, BG.
I really agree that the fact that we pull for each other OOC is a cool thing about the SEC. Most of us take enough pride in our conference to put aside our differences in December and January.
By gamecock man on 12.07.08 5:19 pm
Bull
All I’m saying is when a playoff comes, we will be playing up north a lot more and will lose the advantage of home turf. Things will certainly be a bit different and more than likely advantage lost. Also I wasn’t say our Gators are a “hoax”, where did you get that idea? the current system is a hoax goof.
By gatordone on 12.08.08 11:57 am
Gatordone, if you look at your comment you said that until we implemented a playoff system, “it’s all a bit of a hoax”. I’m with Bull on this one, I thought you were calling the Gators a hoax. I apologize if that is not what you meant, but I went with what it sounded like. Also, I agree that the home field advantage will be lost somewhat, but at the same time, that would mean less of that same advantage for the other teams, as well.
