Moving On From the Heisman Snub

HeismanTrophyAnnounced.jpg

Here’s the shoe-thrower in action where we really needed him.

Gator Nation took it somewhat personally when Tebow was snubbed for the second Heisman Trophy he deserved. The full ramifications of how and why Tebow lost weren’t understood until sometime after the presentation, when it was revealed that 194 of the Heisman Trust’s 530 voters left Tebow off their ballots entirely. Words don’t do justice to the sheer disgust felt by many Gator fans. Even Urban Meyer was quoted as saying, “If Tim Tebow was left off of 194 ballots, there are 194 too many ballots out there.” Word, Coach. Even if all of those losers had placed Tebow at 3rd, which is still hard to fathom but at least isn’t entirely out in left field, college football’s greatest player of our era (Blutarsky calls him GPOOETM, which I dig) would have become just the second two-time Heisman Trophy winner in history. By leaving him off, they guaranteed that he would not win.

Denied. Robbed. Jobbed. That’s what happened. Call me a sore loser about this — sure. Call me a sore loser anytime the Gators get worked. That is clearly what happened here. Not to take anything away from Sam Bradford, who is a great quarterback and a gracious winner, but the way Tebow lost speaks volumes about how politicized this voting process has really become.

The argument of those who defend this travesty revolves around the notion that Big 12 voters left Tebow off because they had three great Big 12 quarterbacks to place: Bradford, McCoy, and Harrell. Just one problem with that: Harrell appeared on hardly any ballots, in any capacity. So bogus.

And yes, I’m driving at a point here: this team has a rallying cry, a reason to come into the championship game mad and ready show the world that their leader eats Sam Bradfords for lunch. Hell, Tim Tebow could throw Bradford to McCoy. That’s what I think.

A crystal football is worth a dozen Heisman Trophies, if not more. The real prize is earned on the field, which is as it should be. And we will see just how good Bradford is when facing a real, competent defense — something he has not yet done this season.

GP, thanks for the h/t.

I would have voted for Tebow if I had a Heisman vote, but you guys are glossing over the fact that there were many ballots which didn’t contain votes for Bradford or McCoy, either.

There were something like two dozen voters who didn’t cast ballots at all.

I think it’s kind of silly to get worked up over the Heisman vote, which I haven’t taken seriously for a long time, so I agree with your last paragraph completely. Kick some Sooner ass, and nobody’s gonna complain about who won the Heisman.

Blutarsky, I’m not glossing over anything of that sort. 194 ballots represents a huge fraction of Heisman voters. The “many” ballots which didn’t hold votes for the other two guys was a lot less than 194.

McCoy was left off more than 120 ballots. Bradford was omitted from more than 90.

Were those numbers less than Tebow’s? Sure. Enough that if none of the three were slighted the voting results would have changed? Nope.

By the way, there were 904 ballots cast this year, so I’m not sure where you got the 530 voters from.

I feel ya GP. I still have that bitter taste in my mouth after the Heisman injustice and still stand by my previous comments that the Big 12 has been over hyped this entire season. McCoy and Bradford played well at times but not the ‘Godly QB’s’ that everyone continues to equate them to. With how crappy the defenses they went up against any team could have done the same. Big deal that OU put up over 60 in 5 games the Gators could have done the same if Tebow was still throwing the ball late in the 4th! I love a blowout any day but hated seeing Tebow sit after the half and then watch Brantley and all the other backups get their reps. It’s sad that the Heisman is such a stat oriented award and that’s exactly why Bradford was trying to ‘fluff’ his numbers up, Stoops knew that and stuck with it all the way to the end! Well I say leave Ole Sammy in there for the whole game and watch him crash and burn!!! Badly I hope!!! I still hear that clown Sims yelling like a retard echoing in my head!!! Damn I can’t wait till the 8th!!!

GO GATORS!!!!!

You’re right, Senator. Brainfart on my part. 530 “known” voters on the Stiffarmtrophy.com website. That’s how the cross-talk occurred.

As I said last year, the Heisman doesn’t deserve Tebow, not vice versa. Bradford very well may be a better QB, but Tebow is a bigger weapon.

Are the Big 12 offenses just good because the Big 12 defenses are terrible?

For that matter, couldn’t a Big 12er make a case that Florida’s defense is only good because they haven’t faced a top-flight offense?

Besides, we’re forgetting that Tebow got the most first-place votes, granted, a magnanimous gesture among the voters that put him on the ballot.

We can talk about how screwed up the Hiesman voting is all day long, but what’s really more important, the Hiesman trophy or the NC trophy?

I’ve watched both of these teams play all year. After the first half of the season, I would have said OU was the better team, but after watching the second half, I can say that absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, that UF has the better team.

No one, and I mean NO ONE is playing with more focus and determination than the Gators are right now.
They are a team on a mission, and if OU thought Texas was tough, then they had better buckle up their chin strap just a tad bit tighter, because they will be tested to the limit in this game.

The Gators have every bit the offense the Sooners have, but the Gators get the not when it comes to defense and S.Teams.

The Sooners have had trouble covering kick-offs all year, and unless their kicker either kicks it out of bounds or suddenly gains enough strength in his leg to kick it out of the endzone, the result will be the same as usual.
No team boast as many world class sprinters as the Gators.

I still say the Gators proved everything they needed to with a win over the Tide, while the Sooners beat up on nothing more than the 5th best team in the Big 12.
Texas, OU, TT and Oklahoma St., in that order, are all better teams than Missouri.
The Tigers D-line absolutely has to be one of the worst i’ve watched all year.

If carryover means anything at all when preparing for the big game, then just compare the last game these two teams played in, and what led up to them getting there.

Anyone remember the Super Bowl played between the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in ‘03?
I remember everyone I new putting their money on the Raiders and their over-hyped offense, while the Bucs defense never got the attention it deserved.
For that matter, I guess you could say the exact same thing about the NC game between the Buckeyes and the Gators in ‘06.

I’m not predicting a blowout, but the Gators will win.

I do feel that the player awards should be awarded AFTER Bowl Season. I think some readers would agree that Heisman award winners have proven to be busts in big games i.e. BCS Championship, and others not to mntion how well the majority of Heisman winners have fared in the NFL. Either way, I`m pulling for the Gators because they are in the conference I cheer for. I want all SEC teams to do good. Besides, Timmmy will probably be back next year, he`ll either win it then or be very close in the running again. Then go to the NFL for a few years, return to Gainesville or wherever, and open up a few car dealerships and a Megachurch.

I am so glad that Mullen is gone, I do not know if Addozio is a beter fit, but at least he will have the team fired up and focused.

Dan Mullen should have been killing it all year. ? He is an idiot. My mom could win with this team.

Saying that, maybe the Heisman jinx will get handed to Bradford too.
