Farewell to a Great Gator
Surprising no one, Percy Harvin announced today his intention to forego his final year of NCAA eligibility in favor of the NFL Draft.
Florida loses one of the most dynamic playmakers in school history, but Gator Nation sends Percy Harvin onward with love and appreciation for all that he’s done for his University.
Simply put, it is not possible to ask more of a player. And it is not possible for a player to give more than Percy did during his time in Gainesville.
Percy Harvin terrorized the SEC from the moment he stepped onto the field wearing orange and blue. As a true freshman, he quickly became the centerpiece of Florida’s spread option attack, rushing and receiving for 855 combined yards and 5 total TDs. As a sophomore he nearly doubled those numbers, catching 59 passes for 858 yards and 4 TDs, while rushing for an additional 764 yards and 6 TDs. Harvin’s stats in 2008 dipped slightly due to a combination of injury and defenses keying in on the talented junior, but was absolutely crucial to Florida’s championship bids and was the difference in the Florida’s BCS national championship victory over Oklahoma.
Two SEC rings and two national championships. There’s a good chance that without Percy Harvin, Florida wouldn’t have had the chance to win any of them.
Harvin was quintessential heart and strength: a great teammate. Humble. Always praising his fellow Gators, especially his run blockers. Was a model student-athlete. Absolutely electric on the field. Never involved in any off-field controversies or scandals. Played hurt practically his entire career.
He was everything we could have hoped for, and then some.
Percy Harvin, you are one of Gator Nation’s golden sons. Wherever you go, we will be with you in spirit forever.
Mercy, Percy!

He will be surely missed by all of Gator Nation! Good luck in the NFL!!
If we were to lose one of the ‘Big 3′ Percy would be the best choice for furthering his career in the NFL. Spikes and Tebow can grow and dominate another year pushing their stock even higher for 2010 draft!!
GO GATORS!!!
Gators 2-0 early in SEC play. Take care of them Hogs on Sat.!!

The big issue last offseason:
Can Florida find an every-down back to complement their passing attack?
This offseason:
Can Florida find a dominant wideout to take pressure off of their running game?
Most fascinating date on a Gator fan’s calendar next season:
October 24, 2009. Urban Meyer and Dan Mullen: Just Not on the Same Sideline
Percival, my man, may your NFL days be bright, and your ankles healthy.

Percy is truly one of those players that you catch yourself holding your breath evry time he touches the ball…
His first 3-5 steps are ridiculously quick in an almost cartoonish way…
And while undoubtedly unbelievably gifted in that department once ball is in hand…
Often overlooked because of that fact is his amazing concentration on the ball when in the largely tight & physical coverage he often faces when running routes…
Just watching that film reminds you of how many balls he hauled in with a defender draped all over him or after a tipped ball goes wobbling up for grabs…
And as pointed out above…
His quick maturation from pouty teen banned from Virginia prep sports due to a quick temper and proneness to physical altercation to the cool, calm, collected, humble and team-oriented young man we saw as Gator fans the last three seasons silenced the doubters and critics that he would be able to keep his head and truly be a productive cog in the gears rather than the wrench that jams up the system…
Good luck, Percy…
Come back and see us soon and often…

Percy, thanks for making me jump out of my seat and scream on a number of occasions. Get drafted, get paid, be healthy, and come back to graduate. Good luck and thank you.

Good Call, he only has so many years left! Thanks for all the hard work!
What you saw in the SECCG is what we will look like with out him.

Mercy Percy… we hate to see you go.
Hopefully Andre Debose can step up in his first year and put up some numbers for us.
Good luck, Harvin, it was a pleasure for us all!

Perhaps Harvin’s hs behavior was similar to the smart kid who misbehaves in class because he’s not challenged by his schoolwork?
In any event, it was obvious to me that even at 90% (realistically, it was probably much less than that) Harvin was easily the best player on the field in the BCSCG. With a healthy Harvin, we beat OU (and Bama in the SECCG for that matter) by three touchdowns each. God speed, Percy. Here’s hoping you end up on an NFL team with a clue how to use your talents to their full potential. Or barring that, my favorite NFL team, Tampa Bay.

It was explained to me that Percy was such a phenom, even in high school, that everyone who wanted to make a name for themselves had to “take on Harvin.” So Percy got everyone’s best shot, whether it was a fair shot or not. To be in his position, he had to defend himself from what were by and large “cheap shots”. He was not a headcase or a short-tempered player, but someone who was taking alot of flack by virtue of his God-given ability and he responded as anyone would. That translated into the Va high school folks taking him away from the potential situations as the easiest way to stop them…they couldn’t control all the others, but they could control him. That’s not fair to him, but he was about to leave for Florida anyway.
Regardless, he was not a headcase nor did he have temper issues, and his flawless behavior and “team-first” attitude at Florida for three years put the lie to any assertions to the contrary. Add to that he was the most electrifying player on our team for three years and the memories of his exploits with the Gators will be remembered for as long as I will be alive.
Thank you Mr. Harvin, for being an amazing Gator.

You did the Gator Nation proud Percy. Congrats and best of luck in Pro Football.

Most explosive player in Florida history- he was our Reggie Bush, no doubt in my mind- and yes if he was even 90% UF blows OU out (he scores on that one huge run easily, catches the bomb, and probably scores on his first big run). I know Percy can’t be replaced (see USC and their “next Reggie”), I only hope we can score enough that the best defense in Gator history is able to win us games (and trust me next years defense will be that good).

Percy, definitely all the best from the entire Gator Nation. You really gave us so many great highlights and amazing runs. Definitely one of the most special guys I’ve ever seen play in-person.
All the best of health, happiness, and boundless wealth in the NFL. You’ll work hard to earn it. Don’t be a stranger in Gainesville, when you’ve got time.
GO GATORS!!!

The Gators are back in the top 25 pending their upcoming loss to UK and no mention here? I’m disappointed Vincy

I need to see two or three more games before I can write a really accurate post. I’m still mindful of what happened last year when they got off to their streak, as are you.
I will say this: There are no excuses for missing the tournament this time.

Besides, I’m still suffering from lingering visions of my ill-fated Patterson posts.

They looked pretty good against the Hogs Sunday. Defense looked improved.
