Egg, Meet Face: SEC Reprimands Kiffin for Inaccurate ‘Cheating’ Remark
Lane Kiffin strikes again! This time the young rookie coach stepped in it, then smeared it around. Crowing about his recruiting victory (Nu’Keese Richardson), Kiffin commented to a public crowd that Florida head coach Urban Meyer had ‘cheated’ by calling Nu’Keese while he was on his official visit to Tennessee. “They cheated, and we still got him!” was the essence of Kiffin’s comment.
Well, there are two problems with going that route, Kiffykins: first, that’s not a violation of NCAA rules. Second, criticizing your fellow coaches in such a manner is against SEC rules.
Jeremy Foley acted swiftly, issuing the following statement:
“There was no rule violation and we have confirmed this with Southeastern Conference. It is obvious that Coach Kiffin doesn’t know that there is not a rule precluding phone contact with a prospect during an official visit on another campus during a contact period. His allegations are inappropriate, out of line and, most importantly, totally false.
It is completely unfair to Urban Meyer, our coaching staff, our football program and our institution. The appropriate action at this time in my opinion is for Coach Kiffin to make a public apology. His comments not only slandered our coach, but he violated SEC rules by publicly criticizing another coach and institution.”
So did Commissioner Mike Slive, who issued a public reprimand to Can’t-Keep-His-Mouth-Shut-Kiffin:
“Coach Kiffin has violated the Southeastern Conference Code of Ethics,” Slive said. “SEC Bylaw 10.5.1 clearly states that coaches and administrators shall refrain from directed public criticism of other member institutions, their staffs or players.”
“The phone call to which Coach Kiffin referred to in his public comments is not a violation of SEC or NCAA rules. We expect our coaches to have an understanding and knowledge of conference and NCAA rules.”
So do we fans. Kiffykins, talk less and WORK MORE. You have scaled to the highest heights of the obnoxio-meter in an astonishingly short time. Your predecessor, Phil Fulmer, may have lost his way in this game but at least he knew the rules, and more importantly knew when to speak and when to stay quiet. Here’s a hint: if your gums are flapping, you’re talking too much.
Best of luck in 2009. You’re going to need it, Big Talker.

Know your role Lane, you have yet to win a single college football game as a head coach and you are already stirring the pot. I see a couple extra timeouts being called on 9/19/09 when your Vols are getting worked by 3 touches.

Face it, Kiff: Life is not going to get any easier just because Al Davis is no longer your boss.
If anything, it just got more complicated.
In one fell swoop, you exposed yourself as a pouter, tried and failed to rub in the loss of a commit, which, by the way, only happens all the time, and provided the Gator locker room with a thick, juicy, prime piece of bulletin board material.
Congrats on bringing your dad and any other NFL assistants you could find as a security blanket. And good luck trying to make pro-style schemes work in a geographic region where the NFL takes a back seat to college ball.

Only 3 Donnie? I’m thinking it’s going to be real, REAL ugly.
By The Bull Gator on 02.05.09 6:23 pm
He’s simply an embarrassment to the entire Volunteer Nation and should be fired before the start of the season. Cut your loses and move on Vols b/c Kiffy’s taking you into some uncharted territory deep in the swamp and I’ve heard man-eating gators live in there!!

Kiffin has absolutely no knowledge of how to be a coach in the Southeastern Conference, or even college football for that matter.
Again, why are you even trying to tell Urban Meyer “Nu’Keese is mine and not yours?”
HELLO! Kids commit and decommit all the time! Until you get the kid to sign that piece of paper, it’s a commitment in name only. You’re going to have some of your kids decommit sooner or later, but the coaches that get them are not going to try and invent their own rules to turn you into a pariah.
Fire Kiffin and replace him with Phillip Fulmer. Or better yet, replace him with Ed Orgeron and give the SEC a real college coach/never-ending comedy act!

You know, I don’t usually choose sides in the UT/UF rivalry, because, well, I don’t like either of you two a whole lot. But I hope you guys really take it to the Vols next year, because Kiffin’s really turning into a major annoyance. After watching the way Urban payed back Richt this year, you would think that opposing coaches would learn the lesson.
Also, I wonder what UT fans think of this guy. He doesn’t seem to fit the personality of the UT tradition, IMHO.

Pretend it’s a slightly younger Chanzi Stuckey instead of Nu’Keese, and it’ll seal the deal, GC Man.

Toto, we’re not in the AFC West anymore.

Is it bad that when I look at that picture I wanna punch him straight in the nose?
By gatorhippy on 02.06.09 7:31 am
What a moron. Didn’t mean to upset/slight Florida and Urban Meyer…BS! Kiffin’s false accusation, most certainly expressed to Nu’Keese, probably swayed the kid to change his commitment. The joke is on Nu’Keese, he is now signed with a program and a HBC that use unethical recruiting practices and have to resort to using false innuendoes on teenagers.
The Gators thank UT for the bulletin board material (reference the UGA beatdown payback for their endzone celebration slight in ‘07). We can’t wait for your visit to the Swamp this season. On September 19th, the Kiffins and your two x-Gator commitments, will learn the true meaning of “shock and awe”. Don’t doubt it!
And, again thanks to Kiffin and friends, Bama/Saban will also be preparing an extra special butt kickin’ for you toothless wonders.

Somewhere in SoCal, Al Davis is chuckling uncontrollably……similar to how us Gators will be Sept. 19, similar to how us Gators did in Jacksonville Halloween weekend, similar to how us Gators will continue to at all the haters of the Gator Nation!!!

I’m thinking its going to be a fun time in The Swamp come September. It’s always fun to take a smartass kid to the wood shed.
As for Nu’Keese’s “flip-flop;” it has been my observation that kids who do such things, are likely to do them again. I do not think he will stay put. And after the “Come September” game, he may publicly change his mind again!
With that in mind, there’s another old quote which I’ll close with. “You’re a day late and a dollar short.”

All I can say is - thank you, Mr. Dumb Ass, for making the UT game something to really look forward to this year. To modify a famous line by a former UF coach, “You can’t spell RUTS without UT!”
By Dad on 02.06.09 12:07 pm
For the record, the actual line from Steve Spurrier was “You can’t spell Citrus without U-T.”
By Vincent Gagliano on 02.06.09 1:48 pm
Funny Gatorhippy that’s exactly how I’ve felt ever since he held up that ugly orange jersey w/ his name on the back! We should all take a road trip to Nashville and lay into his face! Oh, don’t start packing I heard he’s gonna be here mid-Sept; and right before my b-day. I couldn’t ask for a better present.
By John on 02.06.09 2:37 pm
He just took what was going to be a 17 to maybe 21 point blowout and turned it into a thrashing. Bad idea to talk smack to the team that returns everyone on their 2 deep on defense and that just shut down the most prolific offense in cfb history.
For the past few years I’ve actually felt bad for fat Phil and UT. Now, i’m back to hating them again. Thanks Lane for restoring my hatred.

This clown, now at UT clearly has no class and his tank is empty, after all, they did rank a whopping 22nd in national recruiting……down there with Vandy. Impressive. He arrives in Knoxville spouting off at the mouth how they will be playing Rocky Top in the Swamp….NOT!!! Impressive resume to bring to the SEC. 1. Losing Record
2. Fired by owner 3. Owner calls Kiffin a Loser. Fat Fulmer at least had some class. I, for one, cannot wait until UT comes to the Swamp…..but then most UT fans can’t make it, not able to pole their log rafts or putter in on the bass boats.
GO GATORS.

Even from the secondary conversations he has had with boosters, he dosen’t have a clue how many cans of whip a$$ he has opened on his kids. You would think his dad would have 1/2 a brain and shut the kid up or maybe he is like cheese burger Charlie and is surrounded with people that hide all his flaws. Enjoy the beat downs while your their Kiffin!!!

John, the funny thing is I felt that way when Janie Lane Queefin was coaching the Raiders…
And I’m a Raiders fan…
There is just something about Lane’s look…
It seriously just makes me want to hit him in the face…
By gatorhippy on 02.07.09 9:42 am
kiffin was just trying to excite all the retarded UT fans he was talking to in the barn wherever they were.
Guess what? they play us in the Swamp. Have fun on ur first visit Lane.
By robert on 02.07.09 2:20 pm
Great call Nu’Keese, you have Crompton throwing the ball somewhere in your general direction instead of Tebow.
Even better call, Lane.
Do you guys think he’ll piss his pants when he walks into the swamp for the first time?
I do.
By urbanisagod on 02.09.09 9:38 am
“Do you guys think he’ll piss his pants when he walks into the swamp for the first time?
I do.”
Knowing he’s permamently on Coach Meyer’s shit list, Lanie should be doing the pee-pee dance right now.
