The End of an Era

It’s been a good run, ladies and gents. A 48-7 run for these seniors, and Tebow will go down as one of the greatest in the history of college football.
Next year Gator football will reinvent itself. It may take a little time, but it won’t be long before we’re making championship runs again.
Which brings me to my next point. The is end of an era in more ways than one — this is the end of O&B Hue. I’m no less passionate about Gator athletics now than I have been since this blog started in early ‘06, but work demands have greatly curtailed my ability to blog this season, and that won’t change anytime soon. Rather than let the site lapse into a shell of its former, vibrant self, I think it’s best to sweep up one last time, turn out the lights, and salute the many readers and contributors who made O&B Hue one of the most popular UF blogs on the web.
O&B Hue has been an important part of my life. Thinking and writing about the Gators has been cathartic for me; the shining brilliance of these championship years lit the way through dark times, and I’m very fortunate to have been on the virtual sidelines for the best four years of UF athletics. Two hoops championships, and two crystal footballs? That was impossible to predict at the beginning of the ‘06 season, and frankly I would never have believed it could happen. But it did.
Thanks to you all… and as always, Go Gators.

Gatorpilot,
Thanks for the commitment to keeping this site going for as long as you were able to. I just wish I had found this site sooner because it’s definitely become one of my favorites. Thanks again for all the great articles and insight. All the best to you and your family for 2010…(not to steal your line or anything but)…and as always, Go Gators.

Too bad you never got around to doing the second post comparing Meyer and Weis. Wonder why…
In all seriousness thank you Pilot, Vince and Keltic for all the time I’ve wasted on the site over the years. I enjoyed almost all of it, and good luck with your future endeavors.

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.
You can’t just close up, man! I love O&B Hue. I’ve been reading it for so long I can’t even remember when I started. It’s been *years*.
Do you have plans to archive everything? Do you have plans for the URL? What about converting the site to a combination Gator forum / archive of O&BH?
You can’t just 86 the domain name. Surely you have something in mind.
Thanks for all the years of great writing. Seriously bummed to see you go.
Go Gators!

Been a fan of you site for years and it will be missed but seems fitting end as the BCS Guru as pointed to the sea shift change or balance of conference power now returning to the northern teams. It was a good run for the SEC. I’m glad Tebow went out with a win and we’ll always have the memories of these years.

this is my first post, but I want to say thanks for the great coverage. I have been a Gator fan since the mid 1970’s when my family moved to Gainesville and I went to Glen Springs Elementary. I love the gatorsports.com for the daily stuff, but have to say your blog is my single favorite site. Thanks for the efforts and good luck in future endeavors!

The BCS Guru is an idiot. The top 3 teams in the final AP poll were Alabama, Texas and Florida. All southern schools. Watch the recruiting rankings on signing day and see where the best players go. You’ll see 75-80% of the top ranked teams from the South.
People are celebrating the Big 10 for their bowl record. 4-3. The Big 10 went ONE game above .500 and that’s impressive? Big 10 - 4-3 and 2 BCS bowl wins. SEC - 6-4 with 2 BCS bowl wins and a National Championship.
I’m not seeing the shift. If anything it seems like, “as ESPN calls it“, a continuation of SEC dominance. Iowa is a once every 5 year program and Penn State will need to replace their 3 year starting QB. Outside Ohio State there are no consistent teams in the Big 10. The Big East is slipping back to irrelevancy and their star coach has left the conference. In the Big 12 the best teams are all southern teams outside of perhaps Nebraska. Oregon and Oregon St. had good seasons in the Pac-10 but the real power in that conference but the real power of that conference is from the South. And I don’t think anyone would try and claim that Stanford and Cal are “northern” teams.
By the way, Samuel Chi is an IDIOT! After Oregon beat USC he stated on Rivals Radio that Oregon would beat Florida or Texas in a National Title game because no one could keep up with their offense. He has no concept of football and the importance of defense. This is before Oregon went on to lose to Stanford and Ohio State shut them down.
He’s completely out of touch. Take everything he says with a grain of salt. No . . . a bag of salt.

I concur, Keitic. Perhaps Frank should have waited until ::after:: the BCS championship to tour the rise of the North… then again, it was two Southern teams playing for the championship.

As a fan of a rival school that liked to come over here for a little good natured ribbing, let me say that I’ll miss this blog. It was one of my favorites for its blend of intelligent analysis, passion, and humor. Also, as a fellow blogger, I can’t blame you for taking off; blogging is a side project for me, too, and the day will probably come when other things in my life will take precedence. At any rate, good luck to the three of you from a Gamecock.
By gamecock man on 01.08.10 2:16 pm
Also, KG is absolutely right. Too much is being made out of what was really a merely adequate Big 10 bowl season. The only thing there is to be said about the Big 10 is that they didn’t completely embarrass themselves this year. It’s pretty telling when the media calls 4-3 a wild success and 6-4, a national title, and two teams in the top 5 for the SEC a down year.
By gamecock man on 01.08.10 2:18 pm
Even knowing this had to be coming, I’m still very sad. Thanks for all the hard work guys, and Go Gators!
