Al Horford: Wisdom Beyond His Years

One of the faces on Florida’s Mount Rushmore of College Basketball Success has wasted no time in making an NBA impact.

For nearly the entire season, Horford has had to take a backseat in press coverage to vets Joe Johnson and Josh Smith. At 6-10, he’s had to play as a somewhat undersized center while Smith has excelled at power forward. And then there was Bibby.

Colin Cowherd = Jerk

Colin Cowherd, previously known for plagarazing the M Zone, has struck again. In short: he has attacked The Big Lead. Don’t bother clicking the link, it’s still down. He encouraged his listeners (hard to believe the idiot blowhard even has listeners) to access The Big Lead until it crashed. It has now been over a day, and the site is still down.

I contacted ESPN’s new Ombudsman here, and left her a polite but strongly worded complaint about the situation.
I emailed the FCC at fccinfo@fcc.gov (which probably is not the correct address for complaints, but it is better than nothing). I encourage all of you to do the same. It is not acceptable for ESPN “personalities” to bully the blogospehere.

Ryan Smith wants to start

Former Utah CB Ryan Smith arrived on campus in Gainesville early this week.

Smith: “I expect to come in and get a starting job. That’s what I want to do. I know there are guys who have been playing here. I can’t expect to walk in and take a job. I’ve got to earn it. I want to play next to these guys. I’m glad I’m here.”

Feldman: Gators’ road to championship the toughest

Bruce Feldman of the ESPN Insider thinks Florida has the toughest road to the title:

“1. Florida: In a word: brutal. The Gators have a nasty midseason stretch that features four of the big boys in a row starting with a Sept. 30 game against Alabama. In truth though, that visit from the Tide is a warm-up compared to what follows since LSU visits the Swamp the following week. Then the Gators visit Auburn before finishing off October against Georgia. Bookending all that are a pair of road trips against Florida’s two archrivals, Tennessee and Florida State, both of which are in revenge mode after getting beaten by the Gators in ‘05. UF also has two other bowl teams on its slate in UCF and South Carolina, whose head coach knows a thing or two about winning in the Swamp.”

Bling ‘ting, Part Deux

A lil’ more b-ball bling to enjoy prior to the football season.
